For patients who want to realign their teeth discreetly and conveniently, Invisalign® provides a potentially ideal solution. These virtually invisible, comfortable, custom-crafted aligners can be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating, unlike traditional metal braces. And, of course, unlike metal braces, they allow patients to flash their smiles whenever they want without advertising that they’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. Invisalign® offers many benefits with very few disadvantages.
There are patients with minor orthodontic issues, however, who may balk at the treatment timeline associated with Invisalign®, which is similar to that of traditional metal braces. It is with these patients in mind that cosmetic dentist James Altomare proudly offers the option of Invisalign® Express at his Skillman, NJ practice. Invisalign® Express offers all of the advantages of conventional Invisalign® aligners, but with a shorter treatment time that is ideal for patients with comparatively minor spacing issues.

Invisalign® Express vs. Invisalign®
Invisalign® Express is designed for patients who wish to address minor crowding or spacing issues, such as a small space between teeth. It is also potentially ideal for patients who are experiencing the early stages of orthodontic relapse - a condition in which teeth that were realigned during orthodontic treatment begin to shift back toward their original positions in the mouth - because they haven’t worn their retainers in years.
Unlike conventional Invisalign® treatment, Invisalign® Express is conducted in just five stages from beginning to end. The patient is provided with five custom aligners, with the fifth representing the finished alignment. Each set of aligners is to be worn for approximately two weeks, at which point it is to be changed out for the next aligner in the series. Treatment is complete in three months or less.
The cost of Invisalign® Express is lower than the cost of Invisalign®, but the benefits are the same. Patients are able to remove the aligners for brushing, flossing, and eating, as long as they wear the aligners for between 20 and 22 hours a day. Failure to wear the aligners as prescribed will lengthen the treatment time and could lead to less-than-satisfactory results.
Not all patients will be good candidates for Invisalign® Express. Dr. Altomare carefully evaluates patients during their initial consultations to ensure that they will achieve good results through Invisalign® Express before recommending treatment. The treatment is best suited to patients with mild orthodontic issues. Maintenance of results will require post-treatment retainer therapy.
Patients who are not good candidates for Invisalign® Express may be good candidates for treatment with conventional Invisalign®. Dr. Altomare will discuss all available treatment options during the initial consultation, along with benefits, risks, and pricing.
